Each begins as a single drawn wire and ends as an object meant to be passed down — presented in a velvet case, ready to gift.
The Craft
It begins as a single wire.
Pure silver is pulled through plate after plate until it is thinner than a thread. In the hands of a Cuttack artisan that wire is coiled, framed and filled into blossoms, birds and lattices — then soldered into a single, seamless piece of lace.
It is slow work. A showpiece can take weeks at the bench. That patience is the reason no two Tarkasi pieces are ever quite the same.
Draw the wire
Silver is drawn down by hand until it is finer than a strand of hair.
Coil the motif
Each curl, petal and leaf is shaped one at a time with fine pliers.
Frame & fill
An outline is laid, then filled with the coiled wire to form the lace.
Solder & finish
The piece is fused, cleaned and polished until the silver sings.

Four centuries at the bench
Tarkasi — the silver filigree of Cuttack — has been worked here for more than 400 years, passed from one generation of artisans to the next. The skill lives in the hands; it cannot be machined.
Today the craft carries a Geographical Indication, protecting both its name and the makers who keep it alive. Every Tarkasi piece is made to order in our Cuttack atelier, and a fair share of every sale goes back to the artisan who wove it.
